MMDC's Role in MNRAAA

Mid-Minnesota Aging Advisory Council

The MNRAAA-Willmar Office Advisory Council consists of representatives of each of the counties in the Mid-Minnesota Development Commission (MMDC) service area.  The Council also consists of two MMDC Commissioners who are appointed by the Commission’s governing board.  One of the purposes of the Aging Advisory Council is to bring the perspective of the four counties to the AAA as a whole.  The Advisory Council advises and assists MNRAAA in fulfilling the outcomes and obligations of the MNRAAA Area Plan as approved by the Minnesota Board on Aging.  Some key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying the needs, concerns and issues of older adults in the four county planning and service area, and share with elected officials, public/private agencies, organizations, the general public, etc.
  • Consider alternatives and develop goals to address identified needs of older adults.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Area Plan.
  • Make recommendations on awarding Older American Act funding, and assist in the monitoring and assessment of programs that are funded.
  • Advocate on the behalf of older adults at the local, state and federal levels.
  • Encourage cooperation between agencies who provide services to older adults in order to avoid duplication and improve service delivery.
