TEA-21 / ATP participation

The Southwest Minnesota Area Transportation Partnership (ATP) represents the 12 counties within the Mn/DOT District 8 Boundary.  The ATP decides on which submitted projects shall be placed on the state
=s three year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) to receive federal funding.  Roads, bridges, safety projects, enhancement projects and transit capital are the activities funded through the process.

Currently Sheldon Nies, McLeod County Commissioner, represents MMDC on the Southwest Minnesota ATP.  Besides membership on the ATP, MMDC assists the ATP by providing the following services:

  • Scoring candidate projects to their Aregional significance@ as part of the over all scoring process.

  • Participating in the Enhancement Program=s Funding Recommendation Committee.

  • Providing assistance with public participation including an annual public informational meeting on the draft TIP.

  • Other assistance as requested.

Enhancement Projects are a special classification of funding which provides funding within ten categories placed within the following three groups:
1. Pedestrian and Bicycle Facilities
2. Historic (must be directly related to transportation)
3. Scenic & Environmental

Examples of funded projects within Region Six-East are : Glacial Lakes State Trail Improvements, Luce Line Trail Improvements within Hutchinson and in McLeod and Meeker Counties, Dassel to Cokato Pedestrian/Bicycle Pathway, Meeker County Park and Rest Area off TH 12, and the planned trail between Fairfax and Fort Ridgely State Park and a recreational trail on the north side of Green Lake in Kandiyohi County.
